Faculty positions available in social, behavioral, and health science departments

Case Western Reserve University, ranked among the nation’s top health sciences research institutions, is proud to announce the receipt of NIH funding to support the BEST Center. This innovative interdisciplinary center is designed to assist junior faculty with launching a research career focused on positive human strengths and traits, such as self-efficacy, optimism, hope, gratitude, forgiveness, and social connectedness, that can be positive forces in helping those facing serious and life-limiting illness.

Tenure track faculty positions with two years of 75% protected time,
pilot funding, and support from senior research mentors

POSITION DESCRIPTION
• Tenure-track, 12-month, Assistant Professor appointments
• Faculty positions available in social, behavioral, and health science departments (e.g. sociology, psychology, communication, nursing, social work, medicine)
• Two years of 75% protected research time
• Options for the remaining 25% include teaching, clinical positions, or position as a research associate on funded research
• $30,000 pilot funds
• Center support for project administration
• Assigned research and career mentors from relevant disciplines
• Positions begin June 2010

REQUIREMENTS
• United States citizenship
• Terminal degree in a social or behavioral science, or health profession (nursing, medicine, social work)
• Preparation in research methods and statistical analysis
• Submission of a pilot project proposal in the area of positive human strengths or traits, and/or psychosocial end-of-life interventions (quantitative, qualitative, and biobehavioral approaches are all acceptable)
• Commitment to establishing a funded program of research in the area of positive strengths and traits in serious illness
