Accomplishments in EBP by FPB Faculty
Among the FPB faculty's numerous achievements in evidence-based practice are the following:

The Sarah Cole Hirsh Institute has awarded 189 basic certificates and 53 intermediate certificates in evidence-based practice since 2007.

Dr. Elizabeth Madigan has been serving as a grant review for several EBP-related initiatives. In 2009, she served on the Special Emphasis Panel: Incorporating Cost-Effectiveness Analysis into Factors Affecting Quality of Life Health Related Research, at NIH, and was a Temporary Panel Member at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for the Health Care Research Training Study Section. In 2010, she served as a Stage 1 Reviewer for the Director’s Opportunity for Research in Five Thematic Areas (RFA-10-005) grant initiative at the NIH. Dr. Madigan was also the Cleveland site PI for the grant: Development of the OASIS-C for home health care: Home Health Quality Measures and Data Analysis. Principal investigator: Henry Goldberg, Abt Associates. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Drs. Gretchen Mettler and Elizabeth Madigan both participated as faculty in the EBP Certificate programs offered by the Sarah Cole Hirsh Institute.

Dr. Katherine Jones and her colleagues Drs. Susan Tullai-McGuinness, Mary Dolansky, and Amany Farag have completed the evaluation of the Parma Community General Hospital D.A.Y. (Designed Around You) program. Several podium presentations and posters have been generated from this evaluation of an innovative transitional care program, and a manuscript is near completion.

Drs. Carol Musiland Jaclene Zauszniewski presented "Vision 2020: Evidence for Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Interventions With Older Adults" at the European Forum for Evidence-based Prevention Congress, Baden, Austria, held in June 2010.

Dr. Clareen Wiencek has been appointed to be a member of the Evidence-based Practice Work Group for the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. This group develops practice alerts and other EBP materials as charged by the Board of Directors.

Dr. Jaclene Zauszniewskipresented "Vision 2020: Focusing on Evidence for Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Interventions. Pennsylvania State Conference of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Pittsburgh, PA. Also accepted for podium presentation at APNA 24th Annual Conference, Louisville, Kentucky in October 2010.

Dr. Judith Malonihas written "Antepartum Bed Rest for Pregnancy Complications: Efficacy and Safety for Preventing Preterm Birth," to be published in Biological Research for Nursing (Epub ahead of print).

Dr. Elizabeth Damato chaired the NANN Research Committee that developed a standardized format for clinical practice guidelines. The new template provides instructions for writing CPGs that include 21 headings, a system for rating the level of evidence supporting practice recommendations, and directions to online resources.

Dr. Polly Mazanec delivered a talk entitled "Evidence-Based Practice for Quality Palliative Care" at the Case-University Hospitals EBP Lecture Series.

Named the Dissemination and Translation Core Director, Center of Excellence to Build the Science of Self-management: A Systems Approach (SMART Center – Self-management Advances Through Research and Translation), at the FPB School of Nursing. The SMART Center is a P30 Center Grant to FPB from NINR; the principal investigator is Dr. Shirley Moore.
