Eudora has cancelled it's sponsored mode for all versions older than 7.1.
From Eudora.com:
Sponsored mode users that upgrade to Eudora version 7.1 for Windows and 6.2.4 for Mac will be able to remain in Sponsored mode in perpetuity. QUALCOMM has ceased to traffic new ads. Older versions of Eudora in Sponsored mode will revert to Light mode. To continue to use Sponsored mode, users must upgrade to version 7.1 for Windows or 6.2.4 for Mac. The ad window will display a gray Eudora logo in place of ads.
This means that anyone with an older version will be converted to Light Mode if they do not Upgrade to 7.1.
Light Mode is the same as Sponsored Mode, but with fewer features.
Features you will not have in Light Mode are:
- *Junk mail handling features & 3rd party junk plug-ins
- *Spellchecking of your email messages
- *MoodWatch helps you avoid "flaming" messages
- *Statistics on how much email you send and receive

FAQ's
How do I find which version I have?
In Eudora, go to Help and "About Eudora"
The version will be in small print
Do I need a sponsored version?
No, you do not. You can remain in light mode.
Can I install the new version?
Sure! You can download at www.eudora.com. Please follow the instructions on this page for installing the updated version.
Do you recommend the new version?
If you IMAP, we do not recommend the new version. We recommend Outlook. Contact us about switching to Outlook.
How do I know if I am IMAP'd?
Open Eudora, and go to "Tools", "Options" and scroll and click "Incoming Mail". If POP is checked you are on POP. If IMAP is checked, you are on IMAP.
I don’t IMAP, can I still use Outlook? I hear it is better. Is that true?
You sure can! Just let us know. We prefer Outlook over Eudora because it is more robust, and has better junk mail features. All new employees are put on Outlook. NOTE: there is a small learning curve.
Can I use Outlook here and Eudora at home?
Yes, you can.
Can I download the latest Eudora to my personal computer?
Sure! Same instructions as above.
Is Eudora really "going away"?
The company has decided to go Open Source. To read more about that, refer to their FAQ site.
