Windows XP Service Pack 2 comes with an updated version of the XP Firewall. Please be sure to have all of your Windows updates up to date, and Service Pack 2 installed.
To access the XP firewall with Service Pack 2

Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel (You may just have Start --> Control Panel depending on your setup) |

You will find an icon for the Security Center. Go ahead and click it. |

You will see your Firewall option within the Security Center. |
Once you access the Firewall settings, make sure that it is turned on at all times
You may click the "Exceptions" tab to allow certain programs access through the Firewall (not recommended for home users).
You may also purchase other Firewall programs for additional security on your personal system. Be sure to pay attention to the configurations! |
