Though each person has their own preferences when it comes to computers, Case has a specific list of recommendations when it comes to bringing your computer to campus. In addition, the Bolton School of Nursing feels that a few additional items should be considered when purchasing a computer to use during your years here at Case. Please review them all to help you decide which option is the best for you as you start your journey at the Bolton School, and feel free to email us at the FPB Help Desk for any advice regarding your purchase.
Take a look at Case's computer recommendations. (need Adobe Acrobat to view).

Laptops are the best way to go when it comes to using your computer on campus. Whether you live in a dorm or off campus, the portability of a laptop makes your studies much easier and convenient. |
Throughout the Bolton School, as well as all buildings on campus, you will have access to the internet and network through wireless. You also have the option to connect to the wired network in our labs. |
The Bolton School does not recommend Apple computers for Nursing students. |
Prior to bringing your laptop or computer onto campus, please be sure to follow the following instructions for computer security. http://fpb.cwru.edu/it/laptopsatnursing.shtm |

USB keys (also called Jump Drives, Pen Drives, Thumbdrives , etc) are the recommended way for data transfer (IE: bringing data to the lab, or to a presentation, etc ..) . Floppy disks are very unreliable, and do not hold a large amount of data, and CDRW's are more complicated to use. We do, however, recommend CDR's for long term backup storage of your data. You may purchase your key from Dell, or any computer/office supply store. They usually come with excellent rebates! |
You do not need to order Microsoft Office, Acrobat or Virus software with your computer, as you are entitled to FREE software from Case! Be sure to install the antivirus software BEFORE you arrive to campus. |
Please check Case's Getting Connected site for further information on arriving to campus with your new system. |
As far as which computer manufacturer to go with, it is all up to the individual owner, what you can afford, and what you like. Just a note, Case has an education deal with Dell, and there are many discounts, pre-configured systems and more through our Dell E-store . So check it out!
If you already have a laptop, please make sure to check out our Laptops at Nursing site for information on what needs to be done prior to bringing your laptop on campus. Note: it is recommended that all users be on the Windows XP operating system.
