The Neonatal
Nurse Practitioner Program at Case was reestablished in 2001 with
support from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Students have clinical experiences at a number of area hospitals
with certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioners serving as preceptors.
These hospital systems include but are not limited to: Rainbow
Babies and Children's Hospital, the
Cleveland Clinic Foundation Children's Hospital, and MetroHealth
Medical Centers. These Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU's)
provide students with a wide range of experiences in the management
of acutely and chronically ill high risk neonates throughout their
hospitalization. At Case, we offer the unique opportunity for
students to work with internationally recognized nurse researchers.
The nurse graduate of the NNP program has the knowledge and skills
to assess, intervene appropriately and evaluate care of neonates.
Students are eligible to take the NNP certification examination
upon graduation.
Nurse practitioners are essential to the delivery of quality health
care to all persons. As the need for health care increases, nurses
in advanced practice must have the knowledge, skills and sensitivity
to care for clients in many settings. The role of the Neonatal
Nurse Practitioner encompasses activities that promote optimal
health, detect illness and facilitate restoration and maintenance
of health of infants.
There are two sample plans available for review - the Full
Time Student Sample Plan and the Part Time Student Plan.
Resources available specific to the
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program.
