What is the agenda for NURS orientation?
Residential students of the class of 20011 may move into their assigned dormitory rooms on Sunday, August 19 between 9am and 5pm. On Monday, 8/20 and Tuesday, 8/21 orientation activities are planned on campus that will help the class get to know each other and will assist students to become acquainted with the community engagement experiences and to be ready for clinical hospital experiences during the week of 8/27.
I am signed up for CASE orientation session #4. Can I still be part of the nursing orientation?
Yes. CASE Orientation session 4 starts on Monday, August 20 th with check in anytime between 12 and 4pm. Participants in this CASE orientation session can take advantage of much of the Monday Nursing Prepare to Care session.
What do I need to do to be prepared for my clinicals?
Be sure to be submit verification of completion of the Health and Safety Requirements posted on the Newly Admitted Students’ website before Prepare to Care following directions on the Newly Admitted Website under “Health and Safety Requirements”. It is important that you order your uniforms for hospital practice in the early summer using the information that was provided on the same posting. You will need a sturdy watch with a sweep second hand (not digital) for use in taking vital signs. Stethoscopes will be provided as a welcome gift to each incoming student. In order to be prepared for your community clinicals, you will need a pair of khaki, navy or black business dress casual pants. Women may wear a cardigan sweater the same color as slacks and Men a V neck sweater the same color as slacks, if desired, for warmth. CASE Spartan blue polo shirts will be ordered for your community clinical uniform to wear during Prepare to Care.
What shoes are appropriate to wear for clinical practice?
For your clinical experience you will need to purchase all white nurses’ shoes. Leather sport shoes are acceptable if they are all white with no stripes, etc. Be sure these are comfortable. Clogs, high tops, crocs and tennis shoes are not acceptable. White socks must be worn with pants. Neutral colored stockings or support hose are required with dresses. White hose is not necessary.

How will I learn of my hospital and community clinical assignments?
Fall freshmen are assigned to clinicals at University Hospitals CASE Medical Center (UHC). UHC is actually surrounded by the CASE campus and students are able to walk to the hospital. Community practice takes place in Cleveland Municipal School District elementary schools. Freshman students are transported by CASE vans to these assignments.
Fall community and hospital clinical assignments will be posted for students during Prepare to Care and will be posted on the BSN board in the BSN hallway on the first floor of the school of nursing.
Can I submit verifications of having received my immunizations and having passed my professional rescuer CPR class during Prepare to Care ?
Pam Plocica, BSN Department Assistant, will collect final submissions these verifications (make every effort to have all verifications sent to her before this date) during the nursing Prepare to Care. Please have xeroxed copies of the completion of these requirements prepared for her to collect and enter into the database.
