CPR Certification
Each student must maintain a current American Heart Association (AHA).CPR certification of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) at all times during BSN Program. This certification includes content about CPR and airway obstruction for infants, children and adults and must be issued by the American Heart Association
Bring your original card to Prepare to Care for verification. Each semester you will also be required to show your card to your clinical instructor to verify that it is current.
Options for Meeting the CPR Requirement:
- Take an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR course in June, July or August before you come to school. The course must provide a card for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association. Bring this card with you to school.
For a listing of CPR courses in your area, visit the American Heart Association website.
- Take a CPR course sponsored by the BSN Program from Emergency Medical Training Associates. The cost is $40.00 for CPR (First Aid is also available at an additional cost of $40.00. Taken together the cost is $75.00). There is a benefit to students who take both the CPR and First Aid Certification. If a student earns (or has) an active First Aid Certification card, this First Aid certification presented along with an active CPR Certification card at the Office of Undergraduate Studies will fulfill a semester of physical education (2 semesters are required for graduation of all students under the age of 25). This is a 2-year certification.
Call Emergency Medical Training Associates at 440-835-4936 or 440-781-2112 to register.

Background Checks
Policy:
The health care agencies with which FPB partners require all students to provide an acceptable background check from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) and the FBI by fingerprint method. The background check cannot be more than a year old from the start of classes.
Procedure and Payment Information:
To facilitate this process, the CWRU Police Department will be at FPB during Prepare to Care to do fingerprinting. Please be prepared to pay $65.00 cash and bring a picture ID, such as a driver's license with you.
Student Nurse Liability Insurance
On your student bill, please note that all FPB students pay for a membership in the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA). Included in the many benefits offered by this professional organization is a Student Nurse Liability Insurance Plan. Student liability insurance is required of all students by our clinical sites.
Once enrolled in fall classes, a student may decline the NSNA membership but he/she will need to simultaneously secure a student nurse liability insurance plan and verify the same with the BSN department before clinical practice. Forms for freshman will be completed at Prepare to Care in August.
