Background Checks for Student Clinical Placements (from NEONI website)
Northeast Ohio hospitals require completion of a criminal background check for students who come to their facilties for clinical instruction.
Criminal background checks are required by the state of Ohio for three reasons.
-
Hospitals want to provide the best care possible and protect their patients from any unneccessary risk or harm.
-
Senate Bill 38 requires criminal background checks for potential employees working in positions responsible for the care, control or custody of children. Additionally, Senate Bill 160 enforces facilities to require criminal background checks for persons providing care to person(s) age 60 or older.
-
Joint Commission Standard HR 1.20 requires all staff, students and volunteers who work in the same capacity as staff providing care, treatment, and services to have a criminal background check.
