Students enrolling in the Fall 2009 class can anticipate the following expenses. This list is not inclusive; there may be other expenses.

Immunizations/Titers

  • Cost will vary according to which ones you need.
  • The cost may be up to several hundred dollars.


Background Check


Uniforms

  • Uniforms (at least 2 recommended), the required polo shirt, and white shoes are required prior to the start of the Fall semester. A lab coat is optional.
  • See separate section with costs on the New Student website.


PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) or Handheld Computer

  • Highly recommended as a resource when you are in clinical practice. (see more information on this site).
  • Cost is approximately $300.00-400.00, depending on which software you purchase. The software can take the place of hard copy reference books.
  • You will use your PDA throughout the pre-RN and MSN programs and into your professional nursing practice.


Textbooks (required and recommended)

  • Textbooks will be included in the syllabus posted on the Blackboard site for each course. Once you are registered for your courses and activate your network ID, you can access the Blackboard system via FPB’s Front Door. Faculty will activate the Blackboard site for their course when it is ready for viewing.
  • The books used in semester 1 initiate your nursing library will be used in the following semesters of the pre-licensure and MSN programs.

Personal Expenses

Examples include:

  • Deposits for apartment and utilities
  • Rent
  • Settling in expenses (food, furniture, décor, food).
  • Car payment

NOTE:

  • Many students count on a refund from their financial aid award to provide funds for their living expenses for the semester.
  • CWRU issues refunds after the end of drop/add period. For the Fall semester, this date is September 3, 2009.
  • Refunds are made in the form of a paper check.
  • The checks are mailed to your local  address. This can take several days.
  • If the University does not have a record of your local address, your refund check will be mailed to your permanent address.    We  recommend you arrange for someone at that address to be able to deposit the check into a bank account you can use in Cleveland.
