GRADUATE ENTRY DNP FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION

All students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The majority of students are eligible for some type of loan to cover the estimated cost of tuition and expenses for our graduate entry program.
The FAFSA, along with the CWRU Financial Aid application, is required to determine a student’s financial need for the programs listed below. Students interested in receiving financial assistance should complete the following steps:

Complete the FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.   Students entering the program in the fall semester should the FAFSA by April 15th for the fall semester.  If you miss the recommended deadline, complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.  Financial aid is still available for the 2008-2009 academic year.

About two weeks after you submit your FAFSA, you will receive notification that your application has been processed.  Upon notification you should:

Complete and submit the Case Financial Aid application, which may be downloaded at the Office of University Financial Aid website. Hard copies of the document are available in the FPB School of Nursing Financial Aid Office/Student Services.

Obtain and complete a Financial Aid MOA form. Forms are available in the Bolton School of Nursing Financial Aid Office, room NOA 390. A memo of assistance will be completed and submitted to the Office of University Financial Aid.

Married students must submit copies of 2007 income tax return(s) with copies of all W-2's.

After completing and submitting all documents, your file will be reviewed, and your financial aid award will be determined. The process takes about 6 weeks after completing your file. Students may check the status of their financial aid application via briefcase at https://finaid.case.edu.

Financial Aid Programs

Federal Loans

Subsidized Stafford Loan: This offers a low interest rate, interest paid by the federal government while the student is enrolled in school at least half-time, or in deferment. Repayment begins 6 months after completing your program, and when you are enrolled in less than 5 credit hours. This is a need-based program. Students must have financial need as determined by their FAFSA to be offered this loan.

Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: This has a low interest rate; the borrower is responsible for all interest that accrues while enrolled in school, and in deferment. Repayment begins 6 months after completing your program, or when you are enrolled in less than 5 credit hours. This is not a need-based program. All students may be considered for this loan regardless of their financial need.

Perkins or Nursing: These have low interest rates that begin to accrue upon repayment. Repayment begins 6 months after graduation, or when you are enrolled in less than 5 credit hours. This is a need-based program. Students must have financial need as determined by their FAFSA to be offered this loan.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan

The Federal Grad PLUS Loan is designed to assist graduate and professional students in financing a portion of their educational expenses.  The program enables these students to borrow up to the yearly cost of education minus other financial aid received.  PLUS Loans are not need-based, but the student borrower must demonstrate acceptable credit.  Students must first borrow the full amount of their Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans before borrowing through this program. The Grad PLUS Loan is available only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled at least half-time in a degree-seeking program.

Custom Signature Loan

Case Western Reserve University has arranged with Sallie Mae to facilitate a private loan for students who do not receive federal loans, are enrolled less than half-time (5 hrs), or wish to borrow more money than provided by federal loans. To apply, go to www.laureate.salliemae.com.

DNP Student Grant

The Bolton School of Nursing offers a grant to pre-licensure DNP students. The award is based on financial need ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 each year. Students must have financial need as determined by their FAFSA to be offered this grant.
