It’s a Jungle Out TherE: Recognizing our Researchers

May L. Wykle and Shirley Moore at the 2009 CFRS Recognition CelebrationWhether researchers investigate unknown territories or delve deeper into topics with which they are already familiar, they face a number of challenges—much like a jungle explorer. These scholars need to uncover new paths, face a variety of obstacles, and do much searching along the way.

On Wednesday, September 16, the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing’s Center for Research and Scholarship held its traditional recognition celebration to highlight faculty, staff, and students who have received awards and/or grants from professional nursing societies, government offices such as NIH and HRSA, and other groups, as well as individuals who have recently received tenure, a promotion, or an endowed chair at the school.

The event was decked out like a safari to honor the center’s current research theme, “It’s a Jungle Out There: New Explorations.” About 40 members of the FPB family received an award from Dr. May L. Wykle, the Marvin E. and Ruth Durr Denekas Professor and Dean of Nursing, and Dr. Shirley Moore, Mellen Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean for Research.

Among those recognized were students who received funding raised by alumni through a special effort led by the FPB Alumni Association Board.
