Despite decades of research, postoperative pain is still not being relieved. Patients remain unaware of a variety of methods that can be used to relieve their own pain, and care-providers do not always effectively communicate this information to patients.
The purpose of Dr. Marion Good's study, Nursing Care After Surgical Experiences (NCase), is to test and compare the effectiveness of non-pharmocological methods of pain management, patient teaching about pain management, and the combination of both. Knowledge of the effects of non-pharm methods and patient teaching to reduce postoperative pain may facilitate postoperative recovery with lower health care cost. |
