Admission of DNP Graduates with "Advanced Standing"

Effective with the January 2011 enrollment, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) graduates who have graduated within the last five years will be eligible for admission to the PhD in nursing program with "advanced standing."

The "advanced standing" will allow for a waiver of up to 9 credits of PhD coursework. The courses that may be waived include: NURS 609 (health policy – 3 credits), NURS 532 (basic statistics – 3 credits), and one section of NURS 615 (topical seminar – 3 credits). However, to obtain the full waiver of 9 credits, the following criteria for NURS 609 and NURS 532 must be met:

To waive NURS 532 (Basic Statistics) – 3 credits:

  1. A grade of B or better in the DNP applied statistics course must appear on the graduate's official transcript.
  2. The DNP applied statistics course must have been taken with the past five years and appear on the official transcript as such
  3. For DNP graduates not from FPB: Evidence (i.e. copy of syllabus) for the content equivalency (i.e. course description and objectives) of the DNP applied statistics with the NURS 532 (basic statistics) must be provided.

To waive NURS 609 (Health Policy) – 3 credits:

  1. A grade of B or better in the DNP health policy course must appear on the graduate's official transcript.
  2. For DNP graduates not from FPB: Evidence (i.e. copy of syllabus) for the content equivalency (i.e. course description and objectives) of the DNP health policy with the NURS 609 (health policy) must be provided.
