FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do precepted hours qualify for recertification?

There are several national organizations that certify Advanced Practice Nurses in various specialties.  Most of them make some allowance to utilize precepting hours toward credit for re-certification.  They all indicate that this precepting must be provided at the advanced practice level in order to meet the criteria.  Each certifying body has their own way to calculate hours and credit as well as how to report these hours.  Please visit the organizational web site to review the specifics and obtain the necessary forms and information.

American Association of Critical Care Nurses

American Midwifery Certification Board

Pediatric Nursing Certification Board

American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (does not indicate precepting credit)

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

National Certification Corporation

National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses
