FPB FAST FACTS

FPB School of NursingThe Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing (FPB) at Case Western Reserve University is located in Cleveland, Ohio, in the city's University Circle area, which is a park-like home of more than 40 nonprofit cultural, medical, educational, religious, and social service institutions. Case is the only independent, research-oriented university in a region bounded by Pittsburgh and Rochester to the east, Nashville to the south, and Chicago to the west.

Endowed in 1923, FPB honors Frances Payne Bolton (1885-1977), the first woman elected from Ohio to Congress and the first congresswoman to represent the United States in the United Nations' General Assembly.

Case Western Reserve University enrolls more than 9,400 students, 40 percent in undergraduate programs, and the rest in graduate and professional programs. FPB has nearly 90 full-time faculty members, including 13 endowed professorships (the highest in the country). These nationally and internationally recognized professors and practitioners teach and conduct research in a culture of collaboration and discovery, making it easy for students to tap into their experience and expertise.

School Facilities
  • The Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides education in basic clinical skills, such as taking blood pressure and starting IVs, as well as critical decision-making in complex, interactive clinical simulations
  • Four-part Nursing Informatics courses involve learning of information technology that provides health information to both nursing professionals and the general public
  • The Computer Lab, Cyber Café, and Bioinformatics Classroom are operated by FPB's IT Services and provide state-of-the-art technology for students to work individually or in groups on class projects, check their email, meet with friends, and relax between classes

  • Located right next door to University Hospitals of Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic, two of the best and largest academic health centers in the country.
  • U.S. News and World Report ranked the Cleveland Clinic fourth as an Honor Roll center and as a hospital that excelled not in one or two specialties, but in six or more.

  • University Hospitals (UH) of Cleveland: among the nation's leading academic medical centers, forming the largest biomedical research center in Ohio and one of the top 20 in the country
  • MetroHealth Medical Center: a regional referral hospital that is one of only 19 Level 1 trauma centers with a burn unit and a rehabilitation facility specializing in spinal cord injuries
