VIRUS PROTECTION

Virus Protection

Most new computers come with an AntiVirus program, usually Norton/Symantec or McAfee; however, many of these programs come on a trial basis, causing you to have to pay for renewal when that trial runs out.

While that is fine for the average person, here at Case, we give you Symantec Antivirus for free! This means that you do not have to pay to update the definitions for as long as you are a Case faculty, staff, or student.

Keep your software up to date!

Remember to always keep your AntiVirus definitions up to date! If you are continuously connected to the internet, your program should auto-update--however, check it often to be sure! Some of the time, an update will be available even though it is not part of the auto package on that particular day. Performing a manual update can never hurt!

How to install the Case Symantec AntiVirus

The program is available on the Case SoftwareCenter. You must be an active faculty, staff or student to gain access to this site. For instructions on how to access, download and install the software, please refer to our instruction page.

Note: If you currently have an AntiVirus program installed, please uninstall that one first.

Tips for preventing viruses

The most important step is to install an AntiVirus program, and keep it up to date!

Run a complete scan once a week.

Do not open any attachments from folks you do not know.

Trash emails that look malicious or if you are uncertain.

Keep Spyware and Adware away from your system.

Keep your Firewall on at all times, and do not allow exceptions.

What to do if you have a virus

Update your AntiVirus software, and run it to clean the virus. However, some viruses will disable the software, or not allow you to clean via the software. If this is the case, please refer to Symantec's website to download fixes or retrieve instructions for manual removal.
