Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Fall 2011 Students

When and how do I register for classes?

Graduate Entry students take courses taught just for them. So you cannot be closed out of a course. See the step-by-step guide to registration for detailed information on how to register for your Fall courses.

What is the schedule for 2011 Orientation?

Attendance at both orientation sessions is required. Make plans now to attend.

  • Thursday, August 25: 1 - 4 pm
  • Friday, August 26: 8:30 am – 4 pm

You will receive detailed information about orientation in mid-August.

What do I need to do to be prepared to start clinical practice?

Clinical experiences will begin within the first two weeks of the start of classes (August 29). Read and take action to meet the health and safety requirements.

You cannot begin clinical experiences unless documentation of meeting these requirements has been provided to Anne Watson, the Graduate Entry Program Assistant and the University Health Service (for health information). Order your uniforms well in advance. See separate sections of this website for details.

What shoes are appropriate to wear for clinical practice?

Detailed uniform information is available here.

When will I learn of my actual clinical assignment?

Hospital-based clinical experiences:At this time (May 1) we anticipate that students in semester 1 will be assigned to faculty- supervised clinical practice groups at either Case-University Hospitals Medical Center or MetroHealth Medical Center. Students attend one 8 hour day per week (Mon or Wed).  Assignments to specific days (Mon or Wed) and units will be distributed at orientation.

Community-based clinical experiences:All semester 1 students will also participate in 28 hours of clinical practice in a community setting. More information will be provided in the NUND 401 syllabus and Blackboard site.

How do I travel to clinical sites?

Throughout the Graduate Entry, MSN, and DNP programs, students are expected to attend a variety of clinical sites in the Cleveland area and to provide their own transportation to those sites. area. Students generally travel by car (individual or car pools). However, it is possible to travel to the locations by bus.

What is Blackboard? How do I know which textbooks to buy?

Blackboard (Bb) is a platform faculty use to organize their courses. It offers a variety of services and course leaders decide whether to use Bb and which options to use for their particular course.

Most faculty use Bb and expect students to check it regularly for announcements and information essential to the course.
Faculty will list required and recommended textbooks and other materials in the syllabus for their course. This information will be posted on the Blackboard site.

Once you register for a course and have activated your CWRU network ID, you will be able to access the Bb website site. See this site's registration section.

For information about a particular course, please contact the course leader for that course (see the Searchable Schedule of Courses). There is no specific date by which Bb sites must be visible to students.
