Staff Performance Reviews

How do I create objectives for the year?

Take a good look at what you are trying to accomplish in your position. Is there anything in your job description that you would like to expand on? Take a task one step further than what was done in the past.

For example: Instead of simply filing materials, decide what can be purged or archived and/or create a database of materials that can be used as a permanent reference.

How many objectives do I need to create?

That is your choice. It is better to have a few meaningful objectives that will take your position to a new dimension rather than listing several objectives that are already in your job description. If you discover that one or more of your objectives are not completed in 12 months, continue to work on them in the following goal.

My review is now due – should I just wait for my supervisor to write it up?

Discuss the possibility of doing a self evaluation with your supervisor. You will then have the opportunity to identify all that you feel you have accomplished in your position. Your supervisor will appreciate your honesty and will be better prepared to discuss your performance with you.

Where can I find the forms needed for performance reviews?

Evaluation forms for Secretarial/Clerical, Managers and Supervisors, and Professional Staff are available on Case's Human Resources website. Scroll down to Employee Relations and click on the category that fits your description. Forms are in a writable pdf format.

Vacation and Sick Time

How much vacation time do I have in a year?

Vacation time accrues monthly according to the category of the position, whether full or part time and the length of employment. Awarded in hours, it can total 11, 16, or 21 days.

Employees are eligible to use vacation as it is earned or can accumulate hours up to a year.

Does sick time accumulate?

For the first year, an employee earns the equivalent of 5 days of sick time (hours depend on whether full or part time). During the 2nd through the 5th year, 10 days of sick time per year are awarded. Once the employee has reached the fifth year anniversary, 3 weeks or 15 days of sick time is awarded annually.

Sick time does not need to be used in a calendar year and can accumulate up to 26 weeks.

How are vacation and sick time recorded?

Each supervisor is responsible for approving hours worked. FPB staff should complete an absence form prior to vacation time and in advance of medical appointments. Once signed by the supervisor, this form should be returned to Kathy O’Linn for record keeping purposes.

All staff are to indicate time used electronically in PeopleSoft.

Exempt staff should list exception time; non-exempt staff record time used each day.

The PeopleSoft program requires supervisors to approve or dispute hours as indicated by the employee before any information is sent to HR.

Am I eligible to take a medical leave?

Medical certification is required for all leaves longer than 5 days.

The annual maximum leave for personal medical reasons is 26 weeks within a 12 month period.

Annual maximum leave for parenting, childbirth or family medical reasons is 12 weeks within a 12 month period.

The Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 provides 12 weeks of unpaid leave to CASE employees. Family applies to Spouse (as recognized by the State of Ohio), child, parent, guardian, in-law, domestic partner (must meet the requirements for receipt of domestic partner benefits or other relative that the employee is the primary care giver.)

Employees may draw upon the allowance either intermittently or in a total of a 12 month period based on eligibility date of the employee’s first FML leave within the previous 12 months.

What is Short Term Disability?

This benefit begins on the 15th day of each disability or after income protection has been used. It replaces 50% of income up to $400 per week (taxable income). To qualify, you must be totally disabled due to accident, sickness or pregnancy and not receiving any earnings for performing work or services.
